Picture this; you wake up in the morning and a flood of thoughts fill your mind – thoughts of quitting your dream, your vision, your business. Can you imagine that?

If you’re an entrepreneur you’ve probably relieved this morning a lot. I know I have. Sometimes we just fail to remember just how great we are and how the gifts and talents we possess are meant to help improve the lives of others. We often make this journey more about ourselves than serving others.

Watching the Olympics this year taught me a few lessons. As I listen to the athlete’s stories of perseverance, commitment, and consistency, it reminds me that quitting is not an option. Not for me and certainly not for you either.

I read Simone Biles’ story of her climb to “the best gymnast that’s ever lived on the women’s side for sure”, described by Nastia Liukin, 2008 Olympic all-around champion, in an article on nbcolympics.com. What I love most about this little powerhouse is, despite her beginnings – a mother who struggled with drug and alcohol addiction who was unable to care for her and her youngest sister, she still preserved to see her dreams become a reality.

“One of my proudest moments was probably 2013 Worlds,” Biles said, “because I proved to myself that I could do things that I didn’t think I could. I guess I didn’t really believe everyone when they told me how good I was, and so for me to go out there and [win] I kind of started to believe it… I proved to myself that I do have the confidence to go out there and hit it like I do in practice.” ~ Simone Biles

I love what Simone said about one of her proudest moments… “I guess I didn’t really believe everyone when they told me how good I was, and so for me to go out there and [win] I kind of started to believe it…”. Other people can tell us how good we are all day long, but until we believe in ourselves we will never challenge ourselves enough to really prove our greatness.

So I just want to say to you this week, it’s okay to have a thought about quitting, just don’t ever act on it. Stay the course no matter how hard it gets. Be persistent, confident and committed to your dream. You can do it!

One thing that helps me to keep going when I have thoughts of quitting is my accomplishment journal. I just started this journal about a month ago. This is a journal I keep of all my accomplishments, no matter how small. At the end of the week, I take a moment to reflect and write down all my accomplishments for the week. When the dreaded thought of quitting raises its ugly head, I pull out my accomplishment journal and remind myself of just how much I’ve accomplished.

I challenge you this week to start your very own accomplishment journal. Let me know how well it works for you.
