Have you ever wondered what it would be like to vacation anywhere in the world and bask in the lap of luxury? Have you dreamed of having a successful coaching business that allows you to spend a week or two at a luxurious 5-star resort?

That’s always been one of my dreams. Ever since starting my coaching business, I have dreamed of being able to take luxury vacations. I knew I had to make some serious changes if I wanted those dreams to become reality.

How many times have you dreamed of having something but you were reluctant to make the necessary changes to get what you wanted?

I attended a summit in Vail Colorado this past week. I had the honor of meeting some of my existing clients and some potential new clients. We stayed at The Arrabelle at Vail Square, a 5-Star Resort. The summit was also held at The Arrabelle. Talk about luxury!

The room accommodations gave us plush bath robes and slippers, heated marble bathroom floors, fully stocked beverage and snack bar which was replenished every day, exercise equipment for routines you can do in the room, personal umbrellas, humidifier, iPad, Boise sound system and of course WiFi. We enjoyed turn-down service every night where they left sweet chocolates on our pillow.

We had personal drivers to take us anywhere we wanted to go via shiny new 2016 Audi SUVs. Concierge service available 24/7.

Yet, amid all this luxury we had to endure some uncomfortable side effects. Being at an altitude of 8800 feet carries with it some things you must learn to handle to enjoy the luxurious life. The thin air and reduced oxygen at 8800 feet causes your body to react differently – and not always in a good way.

What this trip showed me was, the luxurious lifestyle comes with some side effects. We had to deal with shortness of breath, fatigue, sleepless nights, sore throats and sometimes headaches. These side effects do subside eventually – given time and proper care for your body. However, you must preserve if you want to enjoy the luxury.

The same thing is true when we’re trying to elevate our lifestyle. Rather it’s trying to build a successful business, create a loving relationship, or excel in our careers – the process looks the same. There are periods of discomfort that we must endure to reap the benefits of the lifestyle we want.

It’s sad that many people are unwilling to go through the discomfort to get what they want. The number one reason most people won’t make the necessary changes to get what they desire is, they think it’s too hard. Any time we start to feel uncomfortable we retreat to old ways of thinking and acting.

The thing we fear the most about going after what we say we want, is losing control. Somehow we think that if we maintain control at all times, our lives will be better. We think if we know every move and plan every detail we will find success. Sure, success doesn’t just happen and some planning is required. But, if we wait to plan everything out before we allow certain experiences in our lives we may never reach the success we dream about.

You see I was a little nervous about this trip to Vail. When I realized, I had to go up the mountain at 8800 feet altitude, I told my husband he had to come along with me. I did not know what to expect but what I knew for sure was, I had to allow this new experience in my life so I could live in the abundance I dream about – if only for 5 days.

If you want to elevate your life and start living at higher altitudes, you must take every opportunity to go far beyond your comfort zone and experience the unknown. Change your environment, change the people you associate with, change the places you go and the things you do. Stop trying to plan it all out and just go live!

I challenge you this week to find something that allows you to have a new experience. If you’re dreaming of that special car, go test drive it. If it’s a dream home that’s in your mind, go to an open house and visit your dream home. If it’s running a successful business, find successful business owners to hang out with and glean from.

Living at higher altitudes is easier than you think. Go make it happen!

To your success!
